Before Hiring Tile Contractors:
1. Understand what type of project you need done
Before hiring a tile contractor, make sure you understand exactly what kind of job needs to be done. You should also ask them questions about how they work and what materials they will use.
Some direct tile contractors are more focused on wall and floor tiling. Others are main contractors that will sub out the tiling work to another subcontractor.
2. Choose a contractor based on their reputation
Ask friends and family members for recommendations. You can also check their online reviews. Nowadays, most of the clients will read the Google Reviews before they engage.
If it is a big renovation work, make sure the company has insurance and workers compensation coverage. For HDB homeowners, make sure the company is licensed and listed under the directory of HDB renovation contractor.
3. Ask questions about the tiling process
Before hiring a tile contractor, ask them how they plan to complete the project. Do they use subcontractors? What type of materials will they use? Will they do the installation themselves or hire others? If they plan to use subcontractors, find out what kind of training they have received.
Asking questions will help you better estimate the project timeline and the quality of work you will expect. This is useful when you are dealing with different contractors at the same time.

4. Determine how much money you will spend
Once you have determined the type of project you need completed, determine how much money you are willing to spend. This includes both the cost of the material and labour. If you are unsure of the price, contact several contractors to find out what they charge.
A higher price does not guarantee higher quality. Likewise, a lower price does not compromise the quality of tiling work. Find out what they include in their tiling package before you make the decision.
5. Be prepared to pay more than expected
You should expect to pay more than you think when hiring a tile contractor. It’s not unusual for contractors to charge higher prices because they need to cover overhead costs.
In addition, some contractors charge extra fees for additional services such as removing old tiles or installing grout lines. Thus, it is always good to discuss beforehand with your tile contractor before you proceed. Most tile contractors offer on-site viewing before they quote.
